NNU Career
Jewel served the NNU Athletic Department as the athletics office manager, retiring in 2014 after leading many of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the athletic department for 25 years.
“Jewel was the perfect person to have at the front desk of the department,” said Rich Sanders, former athletic director
& men’s basketball coach. “She treated everyone well, was always even-keeled, and the department could not have run
without her. We were a small operation back then and she looked after everyone, making the office really feel like a family.”
During her time at NNU, she played a vital role in the athletic department’s transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II, which was officially completed prior to the 2001-02 academic year. She also took the lead on many other projects and events, including facilitating the Homecoming Auction numerous years and playing a key role in the hosting of the NAIA Men’s Basketball Division II National Championships for seven consecutive years from 1993-99.
