NNU Sports Medicine

Mission

The Northwest Nazarene Sports Medicine staff will strive to provide the most efficient and effective treatments available to help prevent and manage athletic related injuries or illnesses. Treatment of injuries and illnesses will be based on sound medical and rehabilitative principles in conjunction with consideration of personal and team goals.

Certified Athletic Trainers (ATs) are employed by St. Luke’s Sports Medicine to provide leadership in the health care of the student-athlete including the emergency management of injuries/illness during varsity athletic participation under the direction of the team physicians. Athletic trainers are medical professionals who specialize in the prevention, recognition, evaluation and assessment, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries to athletes and others who are engaged in everyday physical activities. In addition to the physical aspect of care, the sports medicine staff also helps care for the mental health and nutrition of student-athletes. At NNU, the sports medicine staff collaborates with on campus counseling services to help coordinate care for mental health of the student-athlete during and outside of sport.

The goal of the NNU sports medicine staff is to inform and educate student athletes so that not only are they cared for during their collegiate athletic career, but they can advocate for their health and take care of the bodies for the rest of their lives. We strive to take the best possible care of student-athletes to limit their injuries and help them with the best recovery if an injury occurs. A collegiate athletic career of 4 to 5 years is a small portion of a student-athlete’s life. We want to give student-athlete’s the best evidence-based treatment during their careers and the tools to continue taking care of their own bodies for their lives after sport.
