NAMPA, ID. - The Nighthawks dropped the final game of the series against Colorado State Pueblo as the Thunderwolves came ready to play in game four of the series.
The NNU pitching staff struggled in this one, after a solid weekend so far, the Thunderwolves would finally get to the arms, as CSPU would score in the top of every single inning except for the top of the ninth inning, where the game was pretty much over.
Jakob Rochelle would start the game off on the mound, as he would struggle to keep the ball in the yard, giving up three home runs in less than two innings before ultimately being pulled in the second inning.
Grayden Lucas would have the best game out of all the arms that threw today, as he would go three full innings, only allowing three earned runs come across, and two of those came in after he was taken out in the fifth inning.
Hayden Crews would come in for the fifth inning with one out already away, and get hit hard as the first two pitches he threw against the Thunderwolves would be hit hard into the gaps and allow a few runs in as Crews would only throw in the fifth inning.
The Nighthawks weren't helping out their pitchers out in the field either, as costly errors would allow five runs to come in and are classified as unearned runs. Right away this came into play as a past ball on a strikeout would keep the inning going, and the cleanup hitter for the Thunderwolves would come up and send a ball over the left field wall for a two run shot to start the scoring for CSPU.
The offense came out half asleep before waking up as an offense in the fifth inning, but it would be too little too late. Kaleb Karpstein would be a bright spot in the offense as he went 4-5 with two extra base hits and a couple RBIs.
Adrian Arechiga would have himself another good day at the ballpark as he went 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs as well. Carson Burns got his first appearance of the weekend as he played a
couple innings on defense at third base, and got an at bat in the bottom of the ninth which he did not waste, as he would send a ball 413 feet to dead center for a leadoff home run in the ninth.
Even though today's game didn't meet expectations for Joe Schaefer and the NNU baseball team, overall it was still a good weekend as the Nighthawks would go and get three of the four wins available against Colorado State Pueblo as NNU gets ready to jump back into Conference play.
The Nighthawks moved to 14-8 on the season with a perfect four wins in GNAC conference play. The Nighthawks will travel to Ellensburg Washington next weekend for a four game series against Saint Martins University. Game one will start around noon Pacific Time, as the Saints and Nighthawks will play back to back double headers starting on Friday.
