Nighthawks Go and Take Two in Lacey

LACEY, Wa. - The Nighthawks continued to be flawless in GNAC conference play as they would go down to Lacey Washington to go face off against Saint Martins and take both of today's games. Game one finished with a final score of 7-1 and game two finished with a 5-1 Nighthawks win.

Game One - 7-1 (G. Brubaker, 1-0)

Game one was a straight pitching duel earlier today. After a quiet first inning for the Nighthawks, the Saint Martin Saints were able to push one run across in the bottom half of the first on two hits. The Nighthawks were able to get that one run back as a sacrifice fly by Caleb Boswell would push across the tying run, Kyle Becker, in the top half of the second.

After that it was a straight pitching duel. Dillon Eden, the starter for the Nighthawks, would throw 5.1 innings, allowing only one run in the first inning, and only five hits. Tyson Rutherford would come in to pitch in the sixth inning with one runner on base and one out. He would produce a double play ball to get out of the sixth inning pitch before a three up and three down inning in the seventh.

Gavin Brubaker, the starting shortstop, would come in to pitch in the eight and ninth inning. Allowing no hits and walking no batter, striking out two, on his way to the victory.

The Nighthawks offense would finally put some more runs on the board in the top of the ninth. NNU scored six runs in the top half of the ninth inning, as a good station to station offense was implemented and the bases were loaded and ended with six runs coming across.

Game Two - 7-4 ( C. Talley, 4-0)

Game two was a success for the Nighthawks as well as they would cruise to a 7-4 victory over the Saints. The Nighthawks took advantage of two errors by the Saints defence and once again used their station to station offense to take the advantage on the scoreboard in the fourth, and never looked back.

The game started out with a run coming across in the first inning for both teams, as Mason Leavitt would drive in Parker Sobiesiak in the top half of the first. Both offenses would find themselves quiet for a couple of innings before the Nighthawks were able to get to the starter once again in the fourth inning.

The Nighthawks would outhit the Saints, coming up with nine hits in the seven inning game. RBIs came from multiple names, as it was capped off by a Henry Henkel bases loaded walk to give the Nighthawks their seventh run of the ballgame.

The NNU Baseball squad moves to 16-8 overall and remains perfect in GNAC conference play with a 6-0 record. The Nighthawks will stay in Lacey for the next couple days as games three and four will be played on Monday, starting at 10am Pacific Time.
