Seaside, Calif. - NNU baseball finished up the series against Cal State Monterey Bay earlier today, falling short as they lost 2-6 in the fourth game of the series. The Nighthawks looked to get a series split against last year's Super Regional opponent, however could not get it done as the Otters took the series three games to one.
Final Score: 2-6 (L. Parker 0-1)
The Nighthawks would be out-gunned in today's game as the Nighthawks couldn't get to the pitchers for the Otters, and the pitching staff couldn't limit the damage. Landon Parker would get the nod on the bump for the Nighthawks, and would struggle as he would finish the game throwing three innings, giving up six earned runs on four hits, while walking four. Four of those six runs came off of a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the third.
Jakob Rochelle would come in to throw following Parker, as he would go on to throw four scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and striking out four batters. Rochelle would be very efficient in today's outing as he would only walk one batter, and throw 55 pitches in four innings of work. Grayden Lucas would get his second appearance of the series as he would once again get one inning of work, as he would throw one hitless inning, while striking out two of the three batters he faced.
The NNU offense would once again be held at bay as the offense could only get four hits on the day, two off the bat of Carter Walsh, as he would go 2-3 with a walk and two stolen bases, and two off the bat of Liam Herrera, as he would also go 2-3 with a walk.
Jake Mestas would score in the third inning as he would get on base due to a walk, and then eventually be scored on a sacrifice fly from the bat of Coleman Parry. The second run of the day would score in the fourth as Kyle Becker would reach base on an error followed by another error as he stole third base, which would allow Becker to score.
NNU baseball falls to a 7-7 record as they will now head home and look to regroup as they have next weekend off, before facing off against their first GNAC opponent of the season, as Western Oregon come to town to play a four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm on February 27th, as the Nighthawks and Wolves will play two games Friday evening, and two games on Saturday.
