NAMPA, ID. - The Nighthawks had a phenomenal home opener as they were able to take both games against Western Oregon as they had a come from behind win in game one, and a dominant win in game two.
Game One: Win 14-13 (L. Parker 1-1)
Game one was an offensive explosion for both teams as 27 runs would come across to score in the first game of the day. The Nighthawks would turn to their game one starter who would struggle early as Dillon Eden would give up a two run homer in the bottom of the first inning to get things going.
Eden would go 4.1 innings giving up more runs in this game (8) then he had all season (6). Eden would give up eight earned runs on nine hits and a couple errors before he would get taken out of the game.
Grayden Lucas would come in for Eden and also struggle for the first time this year as he would give up his first runs of the season as he would go 0.1 innings, giving up three hits and having four earned runs come across to score.
Nighthawks pitching would however bear down as Landen Parker would come in to pitch in the fifth, going 3.1 innings only allowing one hit and one run to come across, giving the Nighthawks offense time to come back after a seven run fifth inning for the wolves. Nighthawks would score two runs in the eighth to set up closer Wade Duncan to get his third save of the year, retiring the side in order and getting one strikeout.
The NNU offense would be on fire as NNU would come away with the win on 17 hits which scored 14 runs in this crazy offensive game. Highlight of the offense in game one was Liam Herrera as he would start off his day with two monster home runs in his first two at-bats.
Adrian Arechiga and Carter Walsh would help out as well as they both went three for five in game one, helping the Nighthawks along the way. The big swing would come from Arechiga as in the bottom of the 8th inning, Arechiga would hit a bases loaded double that would score Walsh and Karpstein as that swing would put the Nighthawks ahead, and would eventually be marked as the winning run.
Game 2: Win 11-3 (C. Talley 2-0)
Game two the offense kept humming as they were able to put up another 11 runs on the board, but this time the pitching would pitch a dominant set of seven innings to get the win. Corbin Talley would take the hill in game one, as he would go on to throw 4.2 innings only allowing two runs to come across on two hits, while striking out eight batters.
Tyson Rutherford would come in to relieve Talley in the fifth inning, as he would throw 1.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits before Gavin Brubaker would come in to pitch the top of the seventh, as he would give up no runs, no hits, and he struck out the side to end the game and the night for both teams.
Nighthawks offense would stay alive, this time led by Coleman Parry as he would get two home runs of his own in game two, as he drove in five runs on three hits. Carter Walsh would have another amazing game going three for four, scoring three runs and driving in two from the plate. Arechiga would also stay hot as he went one for one, with three walks.
Nighthawks look to go for the series sweep tomorrow as they play games three and four against the Wolves, starting at 1pm here local time. The Nighthawks advance to 9-7 overall, and are 2-0 in conference. Nighthawks look to continue with the hot bats as they look to repeat as GNAC champions once again.
