That set the stage for Nin Burns II, who crushed a grand slam over the left-field fence, extending the Nighthawks' lead to 5-0.

The middle innings turned into a pitching duel, with both teams battling for control. The Nighthawks' pitching staff—Zayas, Joseph Ihli, and Dillon Eden—kept the Mavericks off the board through the fifth inning. Ihli took the mound in the fourth, retiring the side in order with three ground outs. Eden followed in the fifth, also going three up, three down, notching two strikeouts in the process.

The Mavericks finally broke through in the 6th, plating three runs. Keegan Landis reached on a walk and advanced to second when Paul Schoenfeld sparked CMU's offense with a single to second. Joey Blank then drove in Landis with an RBI, moving Schoenfeld into scoring position. With that, the Nighthawks turned to their bullpen, bringing in Landen Parker to relieve Eden. After the pitching change, Max Valdez singled up the middle, scoring Schoenfeld. Christos Stefanos followed with a double, bringing Valdez home and cutting the Nighthawks' lead to 5-3.

This extended NNU's lead to 7-3 as the teams headed into the last leg of the game.
