Bishopp Signs Professional Contract with Sydney Blue Sox

| By:
SYDNEY, Australia - After wrapping up his college career with Northwest Nazarene baseball last spring, Josh Bishopp has signed a professional contract to play with the Sydney Blue Sox of the Australian Baseball League.

Bishopp is from Kirrawee, which is a suburb of Sydney, so he returns to play for his hometown team.

The Blue Sox play in the four-team Australian Baseball League, joined by the Adelaide Giants, Perth Heat, and Brisbane Bandits. The ABL is the highest level of professional baseball in Australia, and since 2010, 71 players have played in Major League Baseball after spending time in the ABL.

The ABL season takes place in the Southern Hemisphere summer months of November through February. The 2025-26 season just started, and the Blue Sox are off to a 2-1 start. Bishopp has appeared in one game so far, striking out nine across 3.2 innings of work and earning the win against Brisbane on Nov. 14.

In the last two seasons, Bishopp posted a 6-1 record in 37 appearances on the mound for the Nighthawks. He struck out 58 across 63 innings in his career, and last year, helped the Nighthawks to their second College World Series appearance and No. 3 national ranking.

Bishopp is the 10th NNU alum to sign professionally in the last eight years.
