NORTHWEST NAZARENE ALUMNI DRAFTED BY MAJOR LEAGUE TEAMS

JAKE REPPERT (2014-15): Drafted in the 27th round of the 2015 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies and was assigned to the Gulf Coast League (Fla.) Phillies (Rookie) for the 2015 season.

ZEB SNEED (2010-12): Drafted in the 11th round of the 2012 draft by the Kansas City Royals. Played 2012 with the Idaho Falls Chukars of Pioneer League (Rookie) and 2013 with the Idaho Falls Chukars of Pioneer League (Rookie) and Lexington Legends of South Atlantic League (Single A). Promoted to the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League (Advanced Single A) for the 2014 season. Signed with the River City Rascals of the Frontier League (Independent) in 2015 and played three seasons for the team from 2015-17.

NICK RAY (2007): Drafted in the 48th round of the 2007 draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Played 2007 with the Gulf Coast League Orioles (Rookie) and 2008 with the Bluefield Orioles of the Appalachian League (Rookie).

ROGER EVENSON (2003-05): Drafted in the 15th round by the Chicago Cubs in the 2005 draft. Played 2005 with the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League (Short Season-Single A) and 2006 with the Peoria Cubs of the Midwest League (Single A).

MANNY BURCIAGA (1992-94): Drafted in the 25th round of the 1994 draft by the Kansas City Royals. Played 1994 with the Gulf Coast League Royals of the Gulf Coast League (Rookie) and 1996 with the Dubois County Dragons of the Heartland League (Independent).

MICHAEL MORTIMER (1992-94): Drafted in the 29th round in the 1994 draft by the Texas Rangers. Played 1994 with the Hudson Valley Renegades of New York-Pennsylvania League (Short Season-Single A), played 1995 with the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League (Single A) and 1996 with the Greenville Bluesmen of the Big South League (Independent).

ROBERT VANDERSLUIS (1968-70): Drafted in the 7th round of the 1971 Secondary Phase draft by the San Francisco Giants. Originally drafted in the 32nd round of the 1970 draft by the Chicago Cubs. Played 1971 with the Great Falls Giants of the Pioneer League (Rookie).

COLE CALNON (2024-25): Signed in 2025 to play with the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers of the Pioneer League (Independent).

TY POHLMANN (2023): Signed in 2023 to play with the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League (Independent) and pitched two seasons with the team.

TYLER BEST (2022-23): Played in 2024 with the Oakland Ballers of the Pioneer League (Independent).

BLAKE MCFADDEN (2018-22): Signed in 2022 to play with the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League (Independent) and is currently in his fourth season with the team.

SASHA JABUSCH (2021): Played in 2021 with the Great Falls Voyagers of the Pioneer League (Independent).

CODY NISBET (2020-21): Played in 2021 with the Santa Cruz Seaweed of the Pecos League (Independent).

ZACH PENROD (2018): Signed as a free agent with the Texas Rangers in 2018 and played the 2018 seasons with the Rangers Rookie League team in Arizona. After two years off from professional baseball, Penrod signed with the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League (Independent) for the 2021 season. Played for the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League in 2022 and started the 2023 season with the Missoula Paddleheads of the Pioneer League before signing with the Boston Red Sox and spending the rest of 2023 with the Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League (Single-A Advanced). In 2024, he remains in the Red Sox organization, starting with the Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League (Double-A) before moving up to the Worcester Red Sox of the International League (Triple-A) at the end of May. On September 14, 2024, Penrod was called up to join the Red Sox in Yankee Stadium and threw a scoreless inning against the Yankees with two strikeouts, becoming the first player in NNU program history to appear in the Major Leagues. On June 20, 2025, Penrod was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and is currently pitching for the Dodgers' Triple-A Affiliate, the Oklahoma City Comets.

JARAMY JACOBS (2016-17): Played in 2018 with the Windy City ThunderBolts of the Frontier League (Independent).

BILLY KING (2017): Signed as a free agent in 2017 with the Tampa Bay Rays and played the 2017 season with the Princeton (W.V.) Rays of the Appalachian League (Rookie).

COLBEN MCGUIRE (2014-15): Signed as a free agent in 2015 with the White Sands PupFish of the Pecos League of Professional Baseball (N.M.) (Independent).

AARON VAUGHN (2011-14): Signed with the Houston Astros as a free agent in 2014 and began season with Gulf Coast League Astros (Fla.) (Rookie). He was promoted and pitched for the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League (Short Season Single A) and the Quad City River Bandits of the Midwest League (Single A) in 2014. In 2015, he played for the Joliet (Ill.) Slammers of the Frontier League (Independent).

JAMIE MITCHELL (2012-13): Signed with the Tampa Bay Rays as a free agent in 2014 and played for the Gulf Coast League Rays (Fla.) (Rookie). Played the 2015 season with the Princeton (W.V.) Rays of the Appalachian League (Rookie).
