MONMOUTH, Ore. – Northwest Nazarene answered Friday's two losses with two wins over Western Oregon on Saturday. The Nighthawks came back in game one to win 4-3 in 10 innings and took game two by a score of 4-2.
The Nighthawks are now 8-12 overall and 2-2 in GNAC play.
Game 1
The first runs of the game came in the 3
rd inning from Western Oregon. The Wolves scored three runs on three hits to take the first lead of the game.
Nolan Walker led off the 7
th inning for the Nighthawks with a double to left field. WOU changed pitchers after Walker's double and retired the next three NNU batters.
The Nighthawks came alive for three runs in the top of the 8
th inning. Leavitt led off the inning and reached base on a throwing error.
Shane Jamison followed up the error with a single.
Colby Moran scored Leavitt on an RBI single to left field.
Brexton Clubb entered the game to pinch run for Moran. Jamison scored on an RBI from
Matthew Reynolds, and Clubb came around to score on a wild pitch before the conclusion of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.
In the 10
th inning, Jamison reached base on a throwing error. Clubb came up to the plate for his first at-bat of the game after pinch running for Moran. Clubb took advantage of the opportunity by hitting an RBI double to left field that would prove to be the decider for the Nighthawks.
Spencer Schwehr threw 7.0 innings and struck out seven batters.
Shane Martin entered for 1.0 inning of relief in which he did not allow a hit and struck out one.
Joseph Ihli got threw the final 2.0 innings for NNU and got the win after facing just six batters.
Game 2
Western Oregon scored first again in game two with two runs in the bottom of the 2
nd inning, but it would prove to be their only runs of the contest.
The Nighthawks first hit of the game came off the bat of
Shane Jamison in the 4
th inning.
Tyler Best hit a single to left field that scored Jamison, bringing the score to 2-1.
In Jamison's next at-bat he came to the plate with the bases juiced. Jamison delivered for the Nighthawks yet again with a bases clearing double that gave NNU a 4-2 lead and win.
Jonathan Zayas started for the Nighthawks and threw 3.1 innings.
Nick Irwin threw 1.0 scoreless innings and struck out two batters.
Ty Pohlmann had a strong showing on the bump with 2.1 innings pitched and five strikeouts without allowing a hit.
Joseph Ihli closed out the game and got his fifth save of the year.

The Nighthawks will have a quick turn around with just one day off before a home matchup against Utah Valley on Monday.
