NAMPA, Idaho – Tied going into the final inning of the game, Northwest Nazarene baseball fell 4-3 to Utah Valley on Monday evening.
The Nighthawks are now 8-13 overall and still 2-2 in GNAC play.
How it Happened
Utah Valley scored the first two runs of the contest in the top of the 2
nd inning even though they had not recorded a hit yet.
The first hit for either team came in the 4
th inning from Utah Valley's right fielder off NNU reliever,
Shane Martin. Martin got the next UVU batter to ground into a double play and escaped the inning shortly after.
Shane Jamison put the Nighthawks on the board with a solo jack to left center in the bottom of the 4
th inning.
Colby Moran followed Jamison's bomb with a single to right center and was brought around to score on an RBI single from
Rumble Reyes.
The Wolverines regained the lead by scoring one run in the top half of the 7
th inning. The Nighthawks made some moves and answered back swiftly.
Kaleb Karpstein came up to bat as a pinch hitter and seized the moment with a double to left center.
Adam Paganelli pinch ran for Karpstein and was brought around to score with a double from
Kyle Payne.
The Nighthawks threatened in the bottom of the 8
th inning with two outs and two runners in scoring position, but UVU narrowly escaped.
Utah Valley scored one unearned run in the top of the 9
th inning to take the 4-3 lead and would hold on for the win.
