NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene baseball dropped it first home game of the year to College of Idaho by a score of 5-1 on Thursday evening.
The Nighthawks are now 1-8 on the season.
How it Happened
The Yotes put up the first run of the game in the first inning with a one out RBI single. Immediately after,
Kyle Ethridge got out of the inning with a 6-4-3 double play.
College of Idaho struck again in the second inning with one run. After striking out the first batter of the inning, Ethridge allowed a home run to center field to bring the game to 2-0. That home run was Ethridge's only earned run that he allowed.
The Nighthawks threatened in the 4
th inning. They had runners on second and third with just one out but failed to scratch across a run with two strikeouts finishing off the inning.
The Yotes extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the 8
th inning, but this time the Nighthawks answered back.
Nolan Walker reached on an error, then
Kyle Payne and
Mason Leavitt were both walked to load the bases.
Colby Moran hit a deep enough ball to center field to score the Nighthawks first and only run on a sac fly.
After two more runs were scored by the Yotes in the top of the 9
th, the Nighthawks faced a 5-1 deficit. Despite a 9
th inning hit from
Matthew Reynolds, the Nighthawks fell 5-1 to the Yotes.
Ethridge's final line read 5.0 innings pitched, giving up two runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.
Shane Martin pitched 3.1 innings and gave up one run on two hits while collecting three strikeouts.
