NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene baseball picked up their first home win of the season with a 5-2 victory over College of Idaho on Friday night.
The Nighthawks are now 2-8 on the season.
How it Happened
The Yotes struck first again in game two of the series with an RBI double from Jonah Hultberg.
NNU answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the 1
st inning. Leadoff hitter,
Mason Leavitt got aboard with a walk and stole second base.
Matthew Reynolds came up with Leavitt on second base and delivered a hard-hit ball up the middle for an RBI single. Later that same inning,
Kyle Payne came to the plate with bases loaded and two outs. Payne singled through the left side of the field to score Reynolds and
Colby Moran and bring the game to 3-1.
In the bottom of the 3
rd inning,
Drew Deal came to the plate and hit an RBI double that scored Moran. Deal's double extended the Nighthawks lead to 4-1.
The final runs of the game came in the 7
th inning. The Yotes added a run in the top half of the inning and NNU answered back yet again.
Tyler Best came to the plate with one out and bases loaded. A sac fly from Best would score Leavitt and bring the game to the final, 5-2.
Brock Moffitt threw 4.0 innings for the Nighthawks. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out nine.
Nathan Galusha relieved Moffitt and threw 2.2 innings and allowed one run while striking out three.
Ty Pohlmann threw 1.1 innings and struck out two.
Joseph Ihli got the save for the Nighthawks, throwing the last two thirds of the 9
th inning and striking out the final batter.

The Nighthawks head over to Caldwell to face College of Idaho in a doubleheader tomorrow.
