NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene baseball defeated the Yotes in game one, 6-4. College of Idaho got the better of the Nighthawks in game two with a final score of 11-3.
The Nighthawks are now 3-9 on the season.
Game 1
The Yotes scored two runs in the bottom of the 1
st to take an early lead. The Nighthawks biggest inning of the game came in the top of the 2
nd inning.
Kyle Payne got an RBI on a fielder's choice. With bases loaded, the Yotes allowed three more runs from walks and a wild pitch.
NNU held a 4-2 lead after the top half of the inning, but College of Idaho evened the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the 2
nd.
Henry Clark came into the game with two runners on in the bottom of the 3
rd to relieve
Dylan Plutner. Clark retired three batters to get out of the inning and went on to throw two more scoreless innings.
Nick Irwin entered after Clark and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, struck out four and did not allow a hit.
In the top of the 7
th inning,
Matthew Reynolds broke the 4-4 tie with a sac fly to score
Shane Jamison.
Tyler Best hit a two out double and was brought around two score with a double from
Kaden Miller.
Joseph Ihli came in to throw the final 1.2 innings for the Nighthawks and recorded a save.
Game 2
The Nighthawks struggled to put up runs in game two. The first hit for the Nighthawks came in the 4
th inning with a double from
Colby Moran.
In the top of the 9
th, the Nighthawks faced an 11-0 deficit.
Austin Thomason had a two RBI single that scored
Adam Paganelli and
Kyle Payne. Thomason was brought around to score on a single from
Manny Casillas.
Spencer Schwehr started for NNU and pitched 4.1 innings. He allowed five runs, just two of the earned, on four hits while striking out six.
On Deck
The Nighthawks next series is at home against Colorado Mesa who is currently ranked 8
th in the nation as of February 15
th. The first game of the series is set for Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
