CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene baseball had little trouble in game one of the four-game set against Canyon County rivals College of Idaho on Thursday, dispatching the Yotes 11-2.
How It Happened
Northwest Nazarene pushed across runs in the first and second innings, with
Grant Kerry bringing in one on a sacrifice fly and
Duke Pahukoa obliterating a ball over the left field fence for a solo homer.
The game looked to be a pitchers' duel after that, with neither team scoring until the sixth inning. NNU starter
Kyle Ethridge was dealing, only getting into trouble once in the second with a one-out, bases loaded jam, but ended up striking out the side to preserve the lead.
In the sixth, Kerry picked up his second RBI of the day with a single to left, and a few batters later
Rumble Reyes brought Kerry home with a single to right. NNU added two more in the seventh as
Tyler Best picked up a sacrifice fly and
Parker Price notched an RBI single, bringing the Nighthawk lead to 6-0.
College of Idaho finally got on the board in the eighth with two runs, but NNU responded with five in the ninth on a three-run bomb from
Haden Keller, RBI single from
Cameron Bogard, and bases-loaded walk to
Ryan Dearing.
