CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene baseball made it two wins in a row against Canyon County rivals College of Idaho on Friday, defeating the Yotes 6-3.
How It Happened
NNU got on the board first, with
Duke Pahukoa driving in
Colton Moore with a double in the second inning. The Nighthawks added three more in the third, when
Grant Kerry notched an RBI double and
Parker Price brought home two runs with a single.
NNU would add single runs in the fifth and sixth, getting an RBI single from
Haden Keller and an RBI triple from Pahukoa, to make it 6-0.
Spencer Schwehr started for NNU and made quick work of the Yotes over his first five innings, allowing just one hit that was erased on a double play. In the sixth, though, an error allowed a runner to reach and then a two-out homer put C of I on the board.
College of Idaho added a run in the eighth, but that was all they would get as
Max Holtzclaw struck out the side in the ninth for the save.
Nighthawks Notes
- NNU improves to 4-6 on the season as they wrap up their 10-game season-opening road trip.
- Keller finished with three hits on the day, while Pahukoa and Ryan Dearing each had two hits, all for extra bases as Dearing had a pair of doubles and Pahukoa notched a double and a triple.
- Schwehr's final line was six innings, no earned runs, three hits, five strikeouts, and a walk as he earned his first win of the season on the mound.
- Brock Moffitt tossed two innings of relief before Holtzclaw entered in the ninth for the save.
- NNU doubled up C of I in the hit category, 10-5.
