EMPORIA, Kans. - Five members of the Northwest Nazarene Track & Field team have qualified for the NCAA DII National Championship and will compete starting Thursday, May 21.
The five athletes that will be competing are
Brody Kemble,
Grady Mylander,
Laurenz Waldbauer,
Morgan Erler, and Maddie Gebers.
Brody Kemble will compete in the 10,000m. Last time out Kemble ran a 31:15.81 to win the GNAC Championship and ran a 29:12.25 at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial icebreaker Invitational.
Grady Mylander will compete in the 5,000m after being named to the All-West Region team by the USTFCCCA last week. Mylander ran a 15:07.73 to claim a GNAC Championship and ran a personal best 14:02.29 at the Bryan Clay Invitiational.
Morgan Erler will also compete in the 10,000m after running a personal best of 35:08.29 at the Bryan Clay Invitational, breaking the top time in program history that she also held. She came in first in the 10k, running a 35:33.36 at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker Invitational earlier this year.
Maddie Gebers heads back to the NCAA DII Championships after making her debut a season ago. Competing in the javelin, Gebers is coming off a runner-up perfromacne at the GNAC Championships where she threw a personal best 46.19m. Gebers has placed in the top five, eight times this season including three first place finishes at the Broward Elite Javelin with Tom Pukstys & Throws Competition, Gary Feasel Open, and on home turf at the NNU Open.
Laurenz Waldbauer looks to return to the podium at nationals after finishing as the runner-up last season. Waldbauer as been a force in the javelin, finishing in the top two every time he's competed. Waldauer threw a personal best 74.09m back in January at the Broward Elite Javelin with Tom Pukstys & Throws Competition. His 74.09 mark stands as the top throw in all of Division II javelin with the next closest being Fresno Pacific's Tevz Podlipnik with a throw of 72.05m.
The events will start on Thursday and Kemble will lead off for the Nighthawks at 8:10 p.m. CST,
Morgan Erler will follow at 8:50. The action will pick up again on Saturday for NNU
Laurenz Waldbauer will throw, starting at noon and Maddie Gebers will throw starting at 3 p.m.
Grady Mylander will close out the event for Northwest Nazarene 6:30 p.m.
