WALNUT, Calif. - The NNU throws team made a statement with strong representation at the renowned Mt. SAC relays at Mt. San Antonio College. In the women's collegiate javelin senior Maddie Gebers placed fourth with a throw of 42.75m. The throw meets provisional NCAA Division II Nationals qualifying standards. Gebers currently has the second-best mark of the season in the GNAC conference.
In the men's elite javelin competition senior Laurenz Waldbauer placed second overall with his throw of 70.24m. Waldbauer's throw also surpasses the provisional qualifying mark for NCAA Division II Nationals. Waldbauer is currently ranked atop the GNAC in the javelin. Despite throwing at multiple prestigious invitationals this season Waldbauer has yet to finish lower than second place.
Back at the Bryan Clay Invitational senior Brody Kemble covered 10,000m in 29:24.71 late Thursday night. The mark also surpasses provisional qualifying standards for the NCAA Division II National Championship meet. Kemble currently holds school records and the GNAC conference's top marks at 5000m (14:06.37) and 10,000m (29:12.25).
On Friday night the Nighthawks hope to add to their successful California trip with senior Grady Mylander and junior Ian Stockett racing in the 5000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational. On Saturday the team travels to Portland to take on a competitive field at Lewis & Clark College.
