OGDEN, Utah - The Nighthawks traveled to Utah Valley University and went head-to-head with some of the toughest NCAA competitors in Utah. In addition to strong winds, NNU battled athletes from BYU, Utah State, Utah Valley University, Weber State, Southern Utah University, and Westminster. This was the second consecutive week the Nighthawks faced NCAA Division I opponents.
The Nighthawks flexed their depth in the 800m led by personal best times from Hazel Kunkel (2:13), Zoey Stauffer (2:22), and Madison Ingram (2:28). Kunkel finished fifth overall in a field loaded with high-end talent. Before elevation conversion Kunkel's time moves her to fourth all-time for NNU. On the men's side Luke Stockett also finished fifth overall in a personal best (1:52) with
Quincy Ellis (1:57) and
Evan Bennett (2:04) not far behind. Stockett moves into NNU's second all-time at 800m.
In the throws NNU was led by Laurenz Walbauer placing second overall in the javelin with a throw of 228'10". Senior Maddie Gebers set a new personal best and finished fifth with her throw of 144'2."
In the pole vault freshman Macie Kern reached her personal best with a leap of 10'-4". Kern finished sixth in the event with teammate Kayley Morrissey taking seventh with her personal best (8'4").
Elsewhere in the jumps
Gerohm Rihari placed second in the high jump by clearing 6'6" with teammate
Alex Shields taking third with a leap of 6'4".
In the women's 400m NNU took sixth place with freshman Celia James running a personal best (58.59). Sophomore
Bryson Paul claimed sixth in the men's 400m with a personal best (50.26).
Freshman Giovanni Carlino placed third in the men's 200 with his personal best (21.37). Junior
Ian Stockett (3:56) claimed fourth in the 1500.
It was another impressive outing for the Nighthawks with new PR's set by men and women in nearly every event group! Next up NNU looks forward to the Whitworth Peace Meet on April 3
rd in Spokane, Washington.
