Four Nighthawks Named All-Region by D2CCA

| By:
NAMPA, Idaho - The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced their 2025 All-Region Teams on Monday morning, with four members of the Northwest Nazarene baseball program being named to the West Region squads.

NNU's elite pitching duo of Ernesto Lugo-Canchola and Cole Calnon both earned First Team honors, while outfielder Nin Burns II and first baseman Kaleb Karpstein were named Second Team. All four also earned All-Region awards from the NCBWA last week.

The Nighthawks' four D2CCA honors tied for the most in the region.

Lugo-Canchola, who was also named the GNAC Newcomer of the Year, led the West Region and ranked seventh in all of Division II with his 2.00 ERA. He is 11-0 on the mound this year and has 91 strikeouts (third in region) across 14 starts and 81.1 innings pitched. He was also second in the region and fourth in the nation with just 5.31 hits allowed per nine innings and his 1.00 WHIP was second regionally and 11th nationally. In his 14 starts, he went at least five innings in all but one and allowed two runs or less in 12 of the 14, including five outings without allowing an earned run.

Calnon's pitching numbers are not too far behind his teammate, as he ranked second in the region and 21st in the country with his 2.31 ERA and just one win shy with a 10-0 record. He was also tied for the Division II lead with eight complete games this season, third in the West with a 5.17 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and third with just 1.32 walks allowed per nine innings. Calnon is also a major factor of NNU's lineup and defense when not on the mound, as the starting shortstop is hitting .302 on the year with 11 doubles, 31 RBIs, 17 stolen bases, and a .419 on-base percentage.

Burns has compiled a .349 batting average, 1.064 OPS, 66 runs scored, 13 doubles, 13 home runs, 49 RBIs, 31 walks, and 16 stolen bases out of the leadoff spot. The right fielder was tied for third in the region with his runs scored total and in the top 15 in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, hits, and total bases.

Karpstein leads the Nighthawks with a .401 average at the plate and .497 on-base percentage. Both marks were fifth in the West Region. He also has 12 doubles, five homers, and 40 RBIs and plays excellent defense as NNU's starting first baseman.
