NAMPA, Idaho - The National College Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) announced their 2025 All-Region Teams on Friday morning, with six members of the Northwest Nazarene baseball program being named to the West Region squads.
NNU's elite pitching duo of
Ernesto Lugo-Canchola and
Cole Calnon both earned First Team honors, outfielder
Nin Burns II and third baseman
Bryan Rojas were named Second Team, and first baseman
Kaleb Karpstein and designated hitter
Cris Enriquez received Honorable Mention.
Lugo-Canchola, who was also named the GNAC Newcomer of the Year last week, currently leads the West Region and ranks seventh in all of Division II with his 2.00 ERA. He is 10-0 on the mound this year and has 88 strikeouts (third in region) across 13 starts and 76.1 innings pitched. He is also second in the region and fourth in the nation with just 5.31 hits allowed per nine innings and his 1.00 WHIP is second regionally and 11th nationally. In his 13 starts, he went at least five innings in all but one and allowed two runs or less in 11 of the 13, including five outings without allowing an earned run.Â
Calnon's pitching numbers are not too far behind his teammate, as he ranks second in the region and 21st in the country with his 2.31 ERA and matches Lugo-Canchola with a 10-0 record. He is also tied for the Division II lead with eight complete games this season, is third in the West with a 5.17 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and third with just 1.32 walks allowed per nine innings. Calnon is also a major factor of NNU's lineup and defense when not on the mound, as the starting shortstop is hitting .310 on the year with 11 doubles, 31 RBIs, 17 stolen bases, and a .427 on-base percentage.
Burns picks up Second Team All-Region honors in his first season in Nampa, compiling a .348 batting average, 1.057 OPS, 62 runs scored, 13 doubles, 12 home runs, 48 RBIs, 30 walks, and 15 stolen bases out of the leadoff spot. The right fielder is tied for third in the region with his runs scored total and is in the top 15 in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, hits, and total bases.Â
Rojas is second on the team with a .365 batting average and has put up 18 doubles, eight homers, 42 RBIs, and a .406 on-base percentage while playing great defense at the hot corner. His doubles total is tied for fourth in the region and he is tied for the eighth toughest to strike out in the West, going down on strikes in just 7.9% of his at-bats (15 Ks in 188 AB).
Karpstein leads the Nighthawks with a .392 average at the plate and .495 on-base percentage. Both marks are currently fifth in the West Region. He also has 11 doubles, five homers, and 38 RBIs as NNU's starting first baseman. Enriquez has spent most of the season as the designated hitter for the Nighthawks, hitting .291 with 12 doubles, five homers, 47 RBIs, and 24 walks.Â
