Team Preview
History continues to be made for Northwest Nazarene in the 2025 campaign as the Nighthawks have reached the Super Regionals, going farther than any NNU squad aside from the 2021 College World Series run. As the top seed in the West, the Nighthawks fell to Point Loma in their regional opener but responded with a win over MSUB and a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Sea Lions to advance out of the regional pod. At 42-14 overall and 27-5 in conference play, NNU is coming off of their third GNAC Tournament title in the last five seasons and fourth GNAC Regular Season Championship in that same span. The 42 wins is a program record and tied the GNAC single-season record, and the Nighthawks enter the Super Regional having won 27 of their last 31 games.
NNU is led by the incredible 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation in GNAC Pitcher of the Year Cole Calnon and GNAC Newcomer of the Year Ernesto Lugo-Canchola, both also consensus First Team All-Region selections. Both enter the weekend with perfect records on the mound (Lugo-Canchola 11-0, Calnon 10-0) and top-25 ERAs in the nation. Other All-Region Nighthawks are outfielder Nin Burns II, first baseman Kaleb Karpstein, and third baseman Bryan Rojas. Burns is hitting .349 with a team-leading 13 homers along with 49 RBIs from the leadoff spot, and has also surpassed NNU's single-season record for runs scored with 66 and counting. Karpstein leads the team with a .401 average and .497 on-base percentage along with 40 RBIs, and had the huge game-tying single in Saturday's win over PLNU. Rojas is hitting .365 with 18 doubles, nine homers, and 44 RBIs.
