Nighthawks Sweep Wildcats in Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene continues to perform well on the field as they head into the final stretch of their season. Wrapping up their series in Ellensburg, the NNU squad came away with a sweep, earning a 10–3 win in game three and a 6–4 victory in game four.

Game One

The Nighthawks got on the board early thanks to a solo home run from Bryan Rojas in the top of the first. Central Washington responded in the second with an unearned run to tie the game at 1–1, but NNU quickly regained momentum.

In the fourth, a clutch 2-RBI triple from Carter Walsh broke the tie, putting the Nighthawks ahead 3–1. Rojas continued another big day at the plate in the fifth, launching his second homer of the game to extend the lead to 4–1.

Despite CWU scoring on an RBI double in the sixth to cut it to 4–2, NNU kept applying pressure. Nin Burns II scored in the seventh off an RBI double by Adrian Arechiga, and a three-run eighth inning pushed the lead to 8–2.

In the ninth, Arechiga doubled and came around to score on a fielder's choice. Cole Calnon later scored on a sacrifice fly from Gavin Brubaker to cap off the NNU scoring at 10 runs.

CWU showed some life with a solo homer from Leid in the bottom of the eighth, but the Nighthawk were able to shut the door and take the, 10-3, victory.

Game Two

The Wildcats struck first after a two-run homer from Ponce in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on an error to take an early 2–0 lead. NNU answered in the second when Gavin Brubaker singled and later scored on an RBI single from Drew Deal, trimming the deficit to 2–1.

In the third, Nin Burns II launched a solo homer to right-center, evening the score at 2–2. The Nighthawks then took their first lead in the fourth, as Carter Walsh delivered a clutch 2-RBI single to center, making it 4–2.

CWU responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game at 4–4 in the fifth on Ponce's second homer of the day. However, NNU bounced back once more in the seventh. Burns II led off with a single and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Bryan Rojas, reclaiming the lead. Moments later, Adrian Arechiga ripped an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Kaleb Karpstein and pushing the game to the final score of 6–4.
