Nighthawks Dominate in Second Day Doubleheader Against Western Oregon

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Nighthawk's Baseball finished out their series against Western Oregon on March 1st with two wins. They took the first game 3-2 and the second 4-0. This will give them the overall win of, 3-1. 

The Nighthawks now sit at 14-8 overall, and 3-1 in GNAC play.


Game One 


The Wolves got the game recorded their first runs of the game in the 2nd inning. Randy Stultz took first on a walk and advanced to second on a single by Tyler Mohler. Danner Salisbury then singled to second and advanced on a fielding error by the Nighthawks center field. This brought home both Stultz and Mohler to put them up 2-0.  


The Nighthawks got their bats going in the top of the 3rd when Nin Burns II singled to shortstop and stole second to put him within scoring reach. Bryan Rojas then singled to center field, bringing Burns to third. The pair scored on RBI's by Cris Enriquez and Kaleb Karpstein to tie the game 2-2. 


NNU looked to stretch the lead in the fifth with a single from Rojas and a great double by Adrian Arechiga but the Nighthawks were unable to bring them home.

he game was fought on the mound for the teams. Tyler Stolfich had an impressive outing pitching 5 innings and recording 5 strikeouts, 2 walks allowed, 3 hits, and 2 runs. The Nighthawks closer also came in for 4 innings to shut out the game recording 6 strikeouts. 


The NNU team sealed their victory in extra innings, scoring their final run in the top of the 12th. Arechiga doubled down the left-field line and advanced to third on Enriquez's flyout to right. Karpstein then delivered with an RBI single up the middle, bringing Arechiga home to make it 3-2. 


Game Two 


As game two got underway the Nighthawks struck first in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead. Calnon got things started with a single to center and later stole second. Brubaker then came through with an RBI single through the right side, bringing Calnon home. They then extended their lead in the fourth inning, pushing another run across to make it 2-0. Arechiga scored on a clutch RBI single up the middle by Drew Deal


The Nighthawks secured the win with a strong final inning, extending their lead to 4-0. Burns showcased aggressive baserunning, stealing home to make it 3-0. Arechiga then stretched the lead further, coming around to score on a pivotal RBI double to center by Karpstein.


Cole Canon had a great outing on the mound keeping the Wolves scoreless in the second game. He pitched all 7 innings recording 6 strikeouts, 0 walks, and 5 hits allowed. 


The Nighthawks took the overall victory, winning three games out of four.


Up Next


The Nighthawks will host Montana State Billings for a 4 game series next weekend. The first double header day is set for March 7th, and first pitch will be at 3:00 pm.
