After a slow two innings CMU made a move in the 5th scoring 2. The Mavericks opening batter, Paul Schoenfeld, singled to center and advanced to second off of a hit by Felix. Joey Blank then hit an RBI, scoring Schoenfeld. Later in the inning, Josh Bishop, who replaced Saunders, walked Reynolds. He then advanced to second off of a wild pitch and scored from an RBI, hit by Max Valdez.

The CMU defense shutdown the Nighthawks offense in the bottom of the 5th and then had another explosive hitting outing in the 6th. Cartwright singled to shortstop and advanced to second off of a bunt from Hara. The Nighthawks center fielder Adrian Arechiga then tripped in the outfield stopping him from being able to catch the hit by Josh Romans. The play resulted in an inside the park home run scoring both Romans and Cartwright extending their lead to 5-1.

The Nighthawks made a final push to contend the Maverick's lead in the bottom of the 8th. Nin Burns II was walked and advanced to second off of a wild pitch. Cole Calnon then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Burns II to put the score at 5-2. However, in the top of the 9th the CMU squad answered with a solo homer from Felix.
