Nighthawks Fall to Wildcats 3-0 in Saturday Match Up

NAMPA, Idaho – The Nighthawks hosted Central Washington on their home court Saturday the 25th. The mid day game saw an intense matchup between NNU and CWU with the Wildcats coming out on top, 3-0. With set scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-20.

The offensively strong CWU team came out ready to play, jumping to a quick 7-2 lead fueled by six early kills. The Wildcats maintained control as NNU battled to close the gap. A kill by Madi Smith brought the Nighthawks within four, but CWU stayed composed and closed out the first set 25-18.

Feeling the pressure, the Nighthawks came out strong in the second set. Early kills from Smith, Abby Black, and Maddy Hellem gave NNU a 5-3 edge. However, CWU quickly regained momentum, tying things up and eventually retaking the lead. Looking to shift the energy, NNU brought in Addison Lynn and Lily Kinloch to spark the offense. The move paid off briefly as Kinloch and Black each tallied a kill to bring the score to 23-21, but the Wildcats responded with back-to-back kills to secure the set 25-22.

The third set brought the most excitement of the night as both teams traded points, never separated by more than two. A kill by CWU's Kailey Willsey followed by back-to-back blocks pushed the Wildcats ahead 12-10. NNU called a timeout to regroup, but CWU came out strong, adding two more quick kills to extend their lead to 15-10. Despite the Nighthawks' determination to rally, CWU maintained their momentum and closed out the set, and the match, with a 25-20 win.

Abby Black led her team offensively with 12 kills and Whitleigh Walsh held it down defensively with 12 digs.

The Nighthawks will be back in the Johnson Sports Center next week on October, 30th as they face off against Montana State Billings. The teams will hit the court at 7 pm.
