Nighthawks Fall in Three Against Alaska Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Nighthawks made their longest trip of the season to compete against Alaska Fairbanks this Thursday the 16th. In 3 close sets the Nightgawks fell to the Nanooks 3-0, with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-23.

The Nighthawks and Nanooks battled back and forth in the first set, with neither team pulling ahead by more than three points. A kill by Hailey Cheney put NNU up 21-19, giving the Nighthawks a late advantage. However, the Nanooks responded with a strong offensive push, as Alaska Fairbanks' Mikala Henderson recorded three kills to help her team claim the first set, 25-22.

Riding the momentum, the Nanooks jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the second set. The Nighthawks fought back, and a kill by Abby Black tied things up at 15-15. Despite a brief run by NNU, the Fairbanks squad regained control down the stretch to take the set, 25-21.

In the final set, the Nighthawks made one last push, pulling ahead 19-17. The teams traded points at the net, but the Nanooks' offense proved too strong, recording six kills in the final stretch to NNU's three. That late surge sealed the sweep for Alaska Fairbanks with a 25-23 win in the third set.

Hailey Cheney led her team's offense with 10 kills followed by Abby Black who recorded 9. Kayci Spray shined defensively with 16 kills.

The Nighthawks will continue their appearance in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium as they face off against Alaska Anchorage. The match is set for 7 PM ASK time on Saturday, October, 18th.
