Nighthawks Battle Concordia Golden Eagles in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene volleyball played their second game of the day on Friday afternoon, facing off against Concordia. This match was the third for them at the Golden Eagle Classic in California, falling 3-1.

In the first set, the Nighthawks fell behind the Eagles, trailing 4-10. However, a kill by Lily Kinloch seemed to spark NNU, and they fought their way back into the game. Despite keeping it close, they were unable to fully recover and lost to CUI 21-25.

In the second set, NNU came out determined to secure a victory. Although they trailed for most of the set, Gabi Moore's service ace tied the score at 22-22, and the Nighthawks rallied to make a run for the win. The energy in the gym was high as the teams battled back and forth. A kill by Miya Koch and an ace by Kenna Henjum secured the set for the Nighthawks with a score of 26-24.

In the third set, NNU struggled to gain momentum. With a stellar performance by CUI's offense and a few errors by the Nighthawks, the game tilted in favor of the Eagles. NNU lost the third set with a score of 17-25.

In the fourth and final set, the Nighthawks were unable to overcome the Eagles, falling 15-25. CUI maintained the lead throughout the game despite NNU's efforts. With this win, CUI secured a 3-1 victory in the match.

Abby Black led her team with 14 kills working with Gabi Moore who had 29 assists.

The Nighthawks will complete their trip to California with one final game tomorrow, September 7th, at 9 a.m. They will face Colorado Christian before returning to Idaho.
