Nighthawks Finish Out Their Appearance in The Golden Eagle Classic

Irvine, California – Northwest Nazarene Volleyball played their final game at the Golden Eagle Classic this morning against Colorado Christian, facing a tough matchup against the Cougars.

In the first set, the Nighthawks encountered strong offensive momentum from the Cougars, who overpowered them with a total of 14 kills. Unable to battle back, the Nighthawks lost the first set 16-25.

In the second set, NNU came out with increased intensity, attempting to turn the tide in their favor. Machado and Kinloch led their team offensively, trying to counter the Cougars. Both teams battled neck and neck, with the score tied seven times throughout the set. As the game drew to a close, the Cougars secured back-to-back kills, finishing the set with a score of 20-25.

The third set proved to be in the Nighthawks' favor as they led for most of the game. Two service aces by Machado seemed to provide the momentum the team needed to push towards a win. The teams were evenly matched at the net, with each team registering 10 kills. However, with 5 aces by the Nighthawks and none by the Cougars, NNU gained an edge with their serves. The Nighthawks won the third set 25-19.

In the fourth and final set, the Nighthawks were unable to overcome the Cougars, falling 21-25. Although NNU and CCU matched up well in this series, the Nighthawks could not gain the upper hand. With this win, CCU secured a 3-1 victory in the match.

The Nighthawks will travel back to Nampa to host their tournament from September 12 to September 14. They will play their first match of the tournament on September 12 at 2 p.m. against Augustana.
