Nighthawks Defeat Wolves in Five

NAMPA, Idaho – NNU Volleyball competed in their second to last game of the season Thursday evening against Western Oregon University. In a thrilling match, the Nighthawks earned a reverse sweep of the Wolves with a 3-2 victory in five sets. 

In the first set of the game the teams matched up offensively recording 15 kills each. However it was on the defensive and service line that the Wolves were able to edge out the Nighthawks. WOU had 4 service aces and 2 blocks helping them to take the win. The first set came to an end with a score of 25-19 in favor of Western Oregon. 


Coming out in the second the Nighthawks fought to turn the momentum in their favor. Battling hard at the net NNU put down 9 kills with a hitting percentage of .083. However, the Wolves kept their offensive prowess going and recorded 12 kills with a .125 hitting percentage. In the end WOU defeated the Nighthawks in the second set with a score of 25-22. 


As the third set got underway the Nighthawks were able to overcome the previous two sets and take the win. Recording 9 kills with a hitting percentage of .400. This combined with errors on the Wolves side of the court the Nighthawks took a victory of 25-21. 


In the final two sets of the game the Nighthawks were able to keep the energy on their side of the court. Recording wins in the fourth and the fifth, 25-21 and 15-13. NNU recorded 16 kills, 2 blocks, and 4 service aces in the fourth. In the fifth they had 5 kills and 5 blocks.


Maren Machado led her team with 15 kills partnering with Morgan Wilding who had 26 assists. Kenna Henjum led the Nighthawks defensively with 17 digs. 


The Nighthawks will return to the Johnson Sports Center for the last time of the season on Saturday the 23rd at 1:00 pm. Show up early to see the three Nighthawks seniors, Maren Machado, Gabi Moore, and Miya Koch, be honored for their time at NNU.
