LACEY, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer scored two early goals en route to a 2-0 victory over Saint Martin's on Thursday afternoon.
The win snapped a five-game skid for the Nighthawks, who move to 2-9-0 on the season and 2-5-0 in GNAC play.
Both goals came in the first five minutes of action, starting in the third minute. The Nighthawks earned a corner, and
Nicole Lewis sent a curling ball towards the target that was deflected off a Saints defender and in for an own goal.
Just two minutes later,
Allison Wolf collected a loose ball just outside the box and sent it in towards goal, where Savannah Herz was waiting to poke it into the back of the net.
NNU locked down on defense the rest of the way, with
Bailey Blancett making eight saves to preserve the shutout victory.
The Nighthawks improved their unbeaten streak against Saint Martin's to 17 matches, dating all the way back to the 2015 season. NNU is 16-0-1 against SMU in the stretch, with the only draw coming last year 0-0 in Nampa.
NNU now heads to Ellensburg for their second meeting with Central Washington this season, set for 2:00 p.m. Pacific on Saturday. The Nighthawks will look to keep the momentum going against the Wildcats, who they knocked off 1-0 in Nampa back on Sept. 26.
