LA GRANDE, Ore. – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer took on NAIA member Eastern Oregon in an exhibition on Saturday, falling to the Mountaineers 2-1.
Tonight's match was the second preseason game for the Nighthawks after taking on Everett Community College in a scrimmage on Thursday.
Eastern Oregon took the lead midway through the first half, with Kana Mateaki putting EOU on the board in the 24
th minute.
The Mountaineers doubled their advantage just three minutes into the second half, when Mateaki scored her second goal of the game to put EOU up 2-0.
The Nighthawks were able to cut the deficit to one late, as
Ellie Ritter put NNU on the board in the 76
th minute off an assist from
Olivia Wicks.
NNU managed two shots over the final 14 minutes, including one off the post from
Madison Grande in the 83
rd, but the Nighthawks were unable to find the equalizer before the final horn sounded.
NNU and EOU finished even at 10 in shots, but five of EOU's were on frame to three for NNU.
The Nighthawks will officially start their 2023 season in two weeks, traveling to Hawaii to take on Hawaii Pacific on Aug. 31.
