BILLINGS, Mont. – Northwest Nazarene bounced back from two losses with two wins on Saturday. They took game one 8-4 and game two 5-2.
The Nighthawks are now 20-22 overall and 14-10 in GNAC play.
Game 1
MSUB scored first with two runs in the bottom of the 2
nd inning. NNU did a good job of answering back and got one run in the top of the 3
rd inning on a sacrifice fly from
Shane Jamison that scored
Mason Leavitt.
In the bottom of the 3
rd inning, the Yellowjackets put up one run to make the score 3-1.
NNU had their biggest inning of the game in the top of the 4
th.
Adam Paganelli and
Kaleb Karpstein started off the inning with a couple of singles.
Brexton Clubb hit a double that scored Paganelli and moved Karpstein to third base. Both Karpstein and Clubb came in to score when
Rumble Reyes reached base on an error, giving the Nighthawks a 4-3 lead.
The Yellowjackets brought the game to a 4-4 tie in the bottom half of the 4
th inning. In the top of the 5
th,
Duke Pahukoa hit a home run that gave the Nighthawks a 5-4 edge.
NNU added two more runs in the top of the 8
th inning and one final run in the 9
th on their way to the 8-4 victory.
Henry Clark threw the first two innings for the Nighthawks.
Nathan Galusha came in for four innings of relief and earned the win. He allowed one earned run and struck out three batters.
Ty Pohlmann earned his second save of the year, closing out the final three innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out three batters.
Game 2
In the top of the 1
st inning,
Kaleb Karpstein singled and was moved over to third on a double by
Shane Jamison.
Colby Moran scored Karpstein on and RBI and moved Jamison over to third base. During the next at bat, Jamison scored on a wild pitch.
The Nighthawks added their final three runs of the game in the top of the 3
rd inning. With
Adam Paganelli on first and
Manny Casillas on second,
Kyle Payne hit a double to score one run.
Mason Leavitt was the next batter and he scored both Paganelli and Payne on a single to center field.
The Yellowjackets added two runs in the bottom of 6
th inning on a home run, but it was too little too late as the Nighthawks went on to win 5-2.
