LACEY, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene baseball dropped both games to Saint Martin's on day two of the series. The Saint's took game one 5-4, and game two 8-7.
The Nighthawks are now 15-19 overall and 9-7 in GNAC play.
Game 1
NNU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1
st inning.
Kaleb Karpstein got on base with a base hit and was brought in to score on an RBI double to left center from
Shane Jamison. Jamison was brought around to score on an RBI single from
Colby Moran.
The Saints added runs in the 4
th and 5
th innings to tie the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the 7
th inning, SMU played some small ball to manufacture two more runs and take their first lead of the game at 4-2.
In the top of the 8
th inning,
Colby Moran came to the plate with one out and
Shane Jamison on first base. Moran hit a double and moved Jamison to third. Jamison scored on RBI ground out from
Rumble Reyes, moving the score to 4-3, but the Nighthawks stranded Moran on third.
In the top of the 9
th inning
Adam Paganelli reached base on a walk and moved around to third on a couple of wild pitches.
Mason Leavitt hit a sac fly to right field to score Paganelli and tie the game at 4-4.
Michael Yamaguchi came to the plate for SMU in the bottom of the 9
th inning with bases loaded and delivered an RBI single into right field for the Saints' walk-off win.
Jonathan Zayas threw 6.1 innings for the Nighthawks, struck out five batters and allowed four runs.
Shane Martin threw 2.0 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit.
Game 2
Saint Martin's generated a big inning in the bottom of the 1
st inning. They started off the inning with three consecutive singles. With the help of a couple Nighthawks errors, they led 3-0 after one inning.
NNU answered with the biggest inning of the game. SMU allowed three walks to begin the 2
nd inning and the Nighthawks made them pay.
Quentin Ayers hit an RBI single for NNU's first run of the game. Later that inning,
Kaleb Karpstein came to the plate with bases loaded and hit a three-RBI double to right center to give the Nighthawks a 4-3 lead.
NNU extended their lead in the top of the 4
th inning. Ayers hit his second single of the game to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, then moved to third on a balk.
Mason Leavitt brought Ayers in to score on a sac fly to right field.
SMU tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 4
th inning when two unearned runs came in to score. In the bottom of the 6
th inning, the Saints took an 8-5 lead on a three-run home run by Damon Ingram.
The Nighthawks made it interesting in the top of the 7
th inning. They scored two runs to make it 8-7, but ultimately stranded the tying run on third.

The Nighthawks have a bye week before resuming GNAC play with a home series against Western Oregon that begins on April 7
th.
