SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene baseball takes the final game of the series against Point Loma in a 7-4 victory.
The Nighthawks are now 1-4 to begin the season.
How it Happened
The Sea Lions struck first with one run in the bottom of the first inning that came on a solo home run by Jakob Christian.
The Nighthawks grabbed the lead in the top of the 3
rd inning.
Kyle Payne got the ball rolling with a double to right center field and was moved over to third base on a single by
Shane Jamison.
Tyler Best followed up with a single to score Payne for NNU's first run of the game. Big swinger,
Duke Pahukoa came up next and delivered a home run to left field to give the Nighthawks the 4-1 lead.
Point Loma tallied a run in the bottom of the 4
th on an RBI double to left field to make the score 4-2.
Pahukoa's next at bat came in the top of the 5
th after a single from Best. Pahukoa hit another home run, his fourth of the year, to make the score 6-2.
In the top of the 7
th, Payne singled to left field and stole second. Best moved Payne from second to third with a fly ball to center field and Duke brought him in with an RBI single to right center.
The final runs of the game came in the bottom of the 7
th inning. Point Loma added two runs to make the final score 7-4 in favor of the Nighthawks.
Dylan Plutner started on the bump and threw 3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Shane Martin ended up with the win after following with 3 innings of his own. Martin did not allow a run, gave up two hits, and struck out one. After a short appearance from
Nick Irwin,
Joseph Ihli threw the final 3 innings for the Nighthawks and collected three strikeouts while allowing one hit and no runs.
Payne, Best, and Pahukoa each had three hits in the game. Pahukoa had two home runs and six RBIs.
