NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene baseball split the day with #6 Colorado Mesa on Friday. The Mavericks took an 8-1 win in game one, and the Nighthawks won game two, 6-3.
The Nighthawks are now 5-10 on the season.
Game 1
Spencer Schwehr started on the bumps for the Nighthawks. He shut down the Mavericks in the first inning and recorded two strikeouts in the top of the 2
nd before allowing seven runs on six hits in the inning.
Nathan Galusha came in to throw the final out of the inning.
The Nighthawks only run of the contest came in the bottom of the 4
th inning with a home run that came off the bat of
Adam Paganelli.
The Mavericks added one more run in the top of the 9
th inning with an RBI single to bring the game to 8-1.
Galusha's final line was 4.0 innings pitched, no runs, three hits and four strikeouts.
Henry Clark came in to pitch after Galusha for 3.0 innings, allowing one run and striking out one.
Blake Hammond threw to one batter in the 9
th inning and struck him out.
Game 2
Mason Leavitt led off the game for the Nighthawks with a single to right field. He was brought in to score on a double to left center by
Shane Jamison.
Colby Moran kept the train rolling with a base hit.
Nolan Walker grounded out to the second baseman, which scored Jamison. Moran scored from second base on a single from
Tyler Best to bring the Nighthawks to a 3-0 lead.
Quentin Ayers rounded out the scoring for the Nighthawks in the first inning with a two-RBI single to right field, extending NNU's lead to 5-0.
Colorado Mesa put up two runs in the top of the 4
th inning on an RBI single up the middle.
Jamison's second RBI of the game came in the bottom of the 6
th inning on a single up the middle that scored
Kyle Payne.
Brock Moffitt was the winning pitcher after throwing 6.0 innings and striking out four batters while allowing two runs.
Joseph Ihli came in for the final inning and allowed one run while striking out one.
Leavitt, Jamison, and Best all had multi-hit games to help lead the Nighthawks to a 6-3 win over Colorado Mesa.
