HILO, Hawaii – Northwest Nazarene baseball dropped both games of the double header to Hawaii Hilo. Game one ended 7-5 and game two finished with a score of 11-3 in favor of the Vulcans.
The Nighthawks are now 1-7 on the season.
Game One
The Nighthawks first run of the game came in the top of the 3
rd inning when
Shane Jamison was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to score
Mason Leavitt. In the bottom of the 3
rd the Vulcans answered with a run of their own to tie the game at 1-1.
With runners on first and second in the top of the 4
th, Leavitt singled to right field to for an RBI single that scored
Nolan Walker. Just after that,
Kyle Payne reached on a fielding error by the outfielder that scored
Adam Paganelli for a 3-1 Nighthawks lead.
The Vulcans added a run in the bottom of the 4
th on an RBI single and a run in the bottom of the 5
th on an RBI single to eliminate the Nighthawks lead and bring the game to 3-3.
A sacrifice fly by
Tyler Best scored Leavitt in the top of the 6
th to regain the lead. Jamison added another run with an RBI double to score Payne and give the Nighthawks a 5-3 lead.
The Nighthawks allowed three unearned runs in the bottom of the 6
th inning to give up the lead. The Vulcans added another run in the bottom of the 7
th to make their lead 7-5. That score held for the remainder of the game.
Game Two
NNU struck first once again in game two.
Shane Jamison doubled to right field to begin the 2
nd inning.
Matthew Reynolds brought him around to score with an RBI triple. Reynolds then scored on a sac fly to left field with a hard-hit ball from
Kaden Miller.
The Vulcans got to NNU's starter,
Spencer Schwehr, for five runs on six hits in the bottom of the 2
nd inning. They continued with one run in the bottom of the 5
th inning to extend their lead to 6-2.
NNU added their final run of the game in the top of the 6
th inning when
Colby Moran drew a bases loaded walk. In the bottom half of the inning UHH added five more runs to seal the game at 11-3.
On Deck
The Nighthawks will finish their series against Hawaii Hilo with a single game on Saturday.
