Nighthawks End Alaska Trip with Loss to Seawolves

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Northwest Nazarene volleyball took the first set on the road against Alaska Anchorage, but the Seawolves rallied to take the next three for a 3-1 win.

NNU falls to 8-9 on the season and 4-5 in GNAC action.

The first set was close with UAA holding a slight 2-4 point advantage for most of the frame before the home team took a 21-17 late lead. Back-to-back kills from Maren Dent started a quick 4-0 Nighthawks run to even the score at 21. After UAA took the lead back, NNU scored four of the last five points to take the set 25-23 on an Abby Black kill.

Set two looked similar to the first, with UAA very slowly pulling in front of NNU throughout. This time, however, the Nighthawks did not have a late run in them, falling 25-21. Set three was a back-and-forth battle, with the teams eventually deadlocked at 23 before UAA took two points in a row for the victory.

The momentum was not on NNU's side to open the fourth, as UAA went on a 12-2 run to take a commanding lead that they would never relinquish on their way to the 3-1 match win.

Dent and Londyn Giles led offensively with nine kills apiece, while Madi Smith had five kills on nine attempts for a .444 attack percentage. Gabi Haws had 25 assists and two aces, while Morgan Wilding added 12 assists and three aces.

Caroline McMahon led the team with 18 digs while Dent recorded 11.

NNU will be back home next week, hosting Montana State Billings on Thursday and Seattle Pacific on Saturday.
