Nighthawks Back to Winning Ways with Road Win at Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY – Northwest Nazarene volleyball snapped a four-game skid on Tuesday night with a 3-1 non-conference victory at Westminster.

How It Happened

  • Tied at seven in the first set, NNU went on a 6-1 run to take an early five-point lead. Westminster came back and cut the lead to 22-20, but NNU got three-straight points to end the set from kills by Molly Anderson and Anna Gable along with a Griffin error.
  • Set two was close at the start as well, but the Nighthawks were able to slowly pull away for a 25-19 victory.
  • Set three seemed to be going NNU's way as well, as the visitors mounted a late comeback to draw even at 22, but Westminster scored three of the final four points to salvage a set.
  • The final frame was very tight throughout with neither team holding a lead over three and reaching a 24-all tie. NNU took the match two points later, though, as a Westminster service error and then block by Tayler Markland and Mattisyn Cope gave NNU the win.

Nighthawks Notes

  • Natalie Sullivan eclipsed the 20-kills mark for the third match in a row, sending home 22 on the night to go along with 12 digs and a .296 attack percentage.
  • Two other Nighthawks hit double-digit kills, with Molly Anderson at 14 and Mattisyn Cope at 13. Anderson also had a season-best 17 digs and hit .353.
  • Caroline McMahon led the squad with 21 digs, while Mckenzie Lee added 6 and Megan MacKinney 10 to make it five Nighthawks with double-figure dig totals.
  • Lee also had 47 assists, equaling her career-high that was just set less than a week ago against Western Washington.
  • Tayler Markland led the team with five blocks, her second 5+ block effort of the season.

Up Next
