SALT LAKE CITY - Facing back-to-back defeats for the first time in two years, Northwest Nazarene women's soccer was able to find an equalizer late in regulation to force extra time and eventually draw 1-1 on the road at Westminster.
The No. 10 Nighthawks move to 2-1-1 on the year, while Westminster moves to 3-0-1.Â
The Griffins took the lead in the 35th minute with a goal from Alexa Maple and would hold that lead for the next 50 minutes of action.
NNU was finally able to break through in the 85th, when
Madison Grande tallied her second goal of the season to knot the score at one. Both teams were able to put a shot on goal in overtime, but nothing crossed the line as the Nighthawks and Griffins battled to a draw.
Westminster forced the issue on offense, putting up 21 shots to NNU's seven (8-3 on goal), as Nighthawk keeper
Alexis Montoya made seven saves over 110 minutes to keep the Griffins to just the one score.
NNU will now take a week off before opening up GNAC play at home against Central Washington on Sept. 23.
