Nighthawks Battle SPU on Senior Day

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer fell behind early to No. 4 Seattle Pacific on Saturday and couldn't come all the way back, dropping the final contest of the regular season to the Falcons 3-2.

However, the year is not finished, as NNU has qualified for the GNAC tournament that begins next Thursday.

How It Happened
  • SPU tallied in both the 12th and 16th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • NNU got back in the game later in the first half, though, as Ashley Parton received a great through ball from Alejandra Jaramillo and beat the keeper one-on-one to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 32nd minute.
  • The Falcons added a third score in the 57th, though, with Sophia Chilczuk finding the back of the net.
  • NNU got one back late as Madison Grande tallied with 38 seconds left, but the Nighthawks were unable to find an equalizer in the final seconds.
Nighthawks Notes
  • NNU concludes its 2021 regular season with a 10-4-3 overall record and 8-4-2 mark in GNAC play, earning the third seed in the upcoming GNAC Championships.
  • This postseason appearance is just the second for the program since joining the GNAC in 2002, and the first since 2017.
  • Before this afternoon's match, NNU honored seven seniors: Jade Zimmer, McKenzie Buell, Magda Wronski, Sierra Sanchez, Ashley Parton, Alexis Montoya, and Chandler Kauffman.
  • Grande's goal was her team-leading ninth of the season and ranks second in the GNAC. Her total is currently fifth-highest in NNU history for goals in a season.
  • Ariel Kotte replaced Montoya early in the first half, making eight saves in goal for the Nighthawks.
