KINGSVILLE, Texas – Northwest Nazarene men's basketball struggled to find their footing in the Lone Star State on Friday night, shooting just 32% in a 73-65 loss to Angelo State.
How It Happened
- The two teams went back-and-forth early, staying withing three points until the 3:26 mark of the opening half.
- After the Rams held a 34-31 advantage, ASU went on an 8-0 run to go up 42-31 with 90 seconds to play in the period.
- That lead would stretch to 11 at halftime, 44-33.
- The second half did not start well for NNU, as they did not score until a Jaylen Fox triple broke the drought at the 13:21 mark. Meanwhile, the Rams went on a 12-0 run to open a 23-point lead.
- It wasn't until the final moments of the game that the Nighthawks cut the deficit back down to single digits, as a Timothy TenKley triple made it 71-63 with 18 seconds to play.
- After free throws on both sides, the game ended 73-65 in favor of the Rams.
Nighthawks Notes
- NNU falls to 1-1 on the year, while Angelo State stays unbeaten at 3-0.
- Gabriel Murphy led NNU with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds along with two blocks. Seven of his 10 boards came on the offensive end.
- Fox was the only other Nighthawk in double figures with 10.
- Kobe Terashima had nine points and four assists, while Christian Rose and Tru Allen both had eight points.
- NNU struggled to hold on to the ball, committing 25 turnovers that led to 22 points for the Rams.
- Angelo State also had a significant advantage in the paint, 36-16
