NNU Defeats Westminster 3-1, Sweeps Season Series with Griffins

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene volleyball took on non-conference opponent Westminster on Wednesday night, defeating the visiting Griffins 3-1.

How It Happened
  • The teams exchanged leads throughout the first set, with things staying tight until NNU held a 22-21 advantage. The Nighthawks then scored three straight to win the frame, with a kill from Anna Gable, an ace from Megan MacKinney, and a Westminster error.
  • The Griffins came out strong in set two, grabbing an early lead and not relinquishing it until NNU evened the score at 23. Westminster bounced back with the next two points, however, to take the set.
  • Sets three and four belonged to the Nighthawks, though, as NNU held the visitors to 14 points in the third and 13 in the fourth to take the match.
Nighthawks Notes
  • NNU sweeps the season series with the Griffins, also winning by a 3-1 score in Salt Lake City on Sept. 28.
  • The Nighthawks improve to 3-2 on their home court this season, with five of their remaining seven matches also set to occur in the Johnson Sports Center.
  • Natalie Sullivan eclipsed the 20 kill mark for the sixth time this season, recording 23 while hitting .233 and registering 17 digs for a double-double.
  • Sullivan was one of five Nighthawks with at least 17 digs in the match, joined by MacKinney with 20, Molly Anderson with 19, and Caroline McMahon and Mckenzie Lee each with 18.
