Nighthawks impress at GNACs. Men finish 4th overall, women take 6th

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - NNU Track & Field spent the last two days vying for supremacy against conference foes at the 2026 GNAC Outdoor Championship Meet hosted by Central Washington University. Here is a summary of team members who scored points in the meet.
Day One:

The throws team had a strong showing on day one. In the javelin senior Maddie Gebers earned second with her throw of 46.19m. In the men's javelin senior Laurenz Waldbauer won the event (66.39m). In the discus junior Emma Kwok placed second with a throw of 43.30m. Freshman Madilyn McCarty also contributed points with an eighth-place finish (39.78m). In the men's shotput senior Carter Alberts finished fifth (15.30m).

The jumps team scored points in the high jump with senior Gerohm Rihari and sophomore Alex Shields finishing in a four-way tie for second (1.99m). Senior Jonah Groce cleared 1.91m to contribute points in eighth place. In the men's long jump Rihari covered 6.94m for a fourth-place finish. In the pole vault freshman Macie Kern cleared 3.28m to finish tied for sixth.

The distance team performed well throughout day one with junior steeplechaser Micah Chi finishing seventh (9:36.85) in the men's race and junior Becca Darwood finishing eighth (11:48) in the women's. In the 10k junior Morgan Erler placed third (37:44.35). Senior Brody Kemble closed day one in style with a memorable win the men's 10k (31:15.81). Kemble lapped the field by the midway point and then spent a considerable portion of the race running in his own chase pack before holding on to win with his signature kick in the last 200m.

Day Two:
The throws team continued scoring with freshman Emily Lewis finishing seventh in the hammer throw (46.40m).

The jumps team added points with sophomore Georgia Collins landing tied for seventh in the women's high jump (1.52m).

Nighthawk runners added points in a variety of distances. The women's 4x100 team of Maddie Spriggs, Paiton Mills, Julie Chrisman, and Kayla Baniaga finished eighth (48.59). Freshman Zoey Stauffer placed eighth in the 1500m (4:42.96). In the men's 1500m the top six finishers were separated by less than one second. Luke Stockett surged from behind to win the event at the line (3:52.56) while Ian Stockett finished fifth from the first heat (3:52.98).

In the 100m senior Kayla Baniaga ended fifth (12.37). Baniaga also placed seventh at 200m (24.90). At 800m freshman Hazel Kunkel took fourth (2:11.23). In the men's 400mh senior Anderson Krohn took sixth place (55.89). In the men's 200m freshman Giovanni Carlino placed seventh (22.17). In the women's 5k junior Cameron Moore placed third (17:32.03).

The men's 5k was a tactical affair with senior Grady Mylander winning (15:07.73) and senior Brody Kemble placing third (15:12.80). With the 5000m win the men's distance team completed an impressive sweep of the distance races with wins at 1500m, 5000m, and 10000m.

In the 4x400m the women's team placed fourth and the men's team finished fifth.

Overall the men's team finished fourth in the GNAC with 87 points. The women's team finished sixth with 53.5 points. Most of the Nighthawks will finish finals in the coming days and take a well-deserved rest before off-season training begins. A select few will wait for selections and hope for a bid to the NCAA Division II National Championship Meet.
