Nighthawks Celebrate Senior Night with Win Over Penguins

NAMPA, Idaho - NNU honored Brayden Reinsch, Colton Safley, Kyle Ireland, and Drew Guerrero during senior night as the Nighthawks defeated Dominican (Calif.) with a 14-8 decision.

Dominican's Cole Soper started the scoring very early into the contest but NNU's Hank Riddle answered back with 11:18 left in the first quarter to start a 5-0 run. Colton Altimus and Ozgood Hawkins went back and forth, scoring two goals each. Before Will Elfline added another for the Penguins.

With 1:49 left in the half, Colton Altimus completed his seventh straight hat trick and his ninth straight game with at least two goals. The Nighthawks were unable to go into the half on a high note as they allowed Tanner Ennis to net his only goal of the night with four seconds remaining.

That last second goal sparked a four goal run for the Penguins capped off by Brakken McDougal with 7:52 left in the third. Colton Altimus added his fourth to start another run for the Nighthawks. Hank Riddle added another in the third and then Brayden Reinsch scored on the man up advantage to end the third with a 10-6 lead.

Kellen Young opened the fourth quarter with another man up goal but Dominican scored on a man up advantage of their own a minute later. Kellen Young and Hank Riddle netted two more for the Nighthawks and Benjamin Southern scored for the Penguins to make the score 12-8 in favor of the Nighthawks.

AJ Moffat earned a goal at the two minute mark and Drew Guerrero capped off his senior night with a goal with 15 seconds to play.

Gordie Steidel earned his third win of the season, second of conference. Steidel recorded 10 saves on 18 shots on goal. Colton Altimus lead the Nighthawks in goals with four while Hank Riddle netted a hat trick. Both Kellen Young and Ozgood Hawkins scored two goals each. Brayden Reinsch, AJ Moffat, and Drew Guerrero each scored a goal.

NNU is now 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the RMAC. They will finish their home schedule on Saturday as they host the Concordia Irvine Golden Eagles at 1 pm.
