Hat Trick from Altimus Not Enough in Loss to Adams State

NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks dropped an 11-9 decision at home against the Adams State Grizzlies.

Ozgood Hawkins started NNU off on the right foot as they struck just two minutes into the game, scoring his fifth goal of the season. NNU's lead wouldn't last long as Tre Williams sent the ball into the net off a pass from Cole Murri which knotted the game up at one with 10 minutes to play in the first quarter. That would be the first of four straight goals from the Grizzlies as they led 4-1 in the second. Colton Altimus then scored back-to-back goals five minutes apart to bring the Nighthawks within one. A Malik Maxwell goal with a man advantage extended the Adams State lead just before half.

Once again, NNU started the half strong as Hank Riddle netted his first of the night to bring the Nighthawks back within one.  Three unanswered goals from the Grizzlies extended their lead once again. With 2:59 left in the third quarter, Drew Guerrero capitalized on a man up advantage but Jacob Parsons answered right back to go up four. Cohen Taylor scored a minute before the quarter break and Danny Joy added another a few minutes into the fourth quarter.

The Nighthawks attempted a comeback starting with a Kellen Young goal to make the score 11-6 with 11:40 remaining in the game and Hank Riddle scored just 39 seconds later. Colton Altimus brought NNU within three to net his third of the night to secure a hat trick. Kellen Young added another goal to his tally to make the score 11-9 with 4:35 left to play. Despite over four minutes to play, the Nighthawks were unable to score anymore.

Colton Altimus led the Nighthawks with three goals, his fifth straight game with at least three goals and seventh with at least two. Kellen Young and Hank Riddle each had two goals while Young also recorded an assist. Gordie Steidel finished with 12 saves.

Northwest Nazarene falls to 2-5 overall, 1-3 in conference, and fifth in the RMAC standings. Their next game will be against Colorado Mesa on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
