Game One: Win 3-1 (D. Eden 3-0)
Seaside, Calif. - This weekend's top 15 matchup, according to the D2 Baseball rankings, starts off with a win for NNU (12th Ranked) as the Nighthawks were able to take down the 14th ranked Otters in today's pitchers duel.
The Nighthawks faced off against starting pitcher Daniel Flores, who had pitched a stellar five innings against Azusa Pacific last week, going five innings and giving up no runs. However, the Nighthawks were able to change that.
Nighthawks were able to take advantage of mistake pitches as Adrian Arechiga and Caleb Boswell were able to send two strike pitches over the left field wall for two solo shots. NNU would get two runs in five innings off Flores on three hits and a couple hit batters.
Taking the mound for NNU in this one was Joe Schaefer's normal game one starter, Dillon Eden. Eden would have yet another amazing game, as he would be able to throw seven full innings, giving up only one run, and striking out three. Eden would give up seven hits over the seven innings thrown as he would go on and get his third win of the season!
Wade Duncan would come in to end the game, throwing the last two innings as he would go two scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and striking out two. Duncan went out and got his second save of the season in today's game.
The Nighthawks offense would have to work hard to get on the board in this one. Arechiga would get the game started with a solo shot in the top of the first on a one ball, two strike count, sending a high fastball over the scoreboard in left field.
Caleb Boswell would send a second baseball out of the ballpark, as he would battle in a two strike count, fouling off multiple breaking balls, before getting a fastball inside to send down the left field line and over the fence.
The Cal State Monterey Bay Otters would get one back, as a first and third single would score the one and only run off of Eden before Eden would strike out a batter to get himself out of the inning.
The Nighthawks look to continue to build off of this win, as they have three more games in this series as games two and three are tomorrow. NNU is now 7-4 on the season so far as they look to add to the winning streak in tomorrow's double header.
