NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team fell to No. 9 Western Washington 1-0 in Nampa on Thursday evening.
The Nighthawks started strong as
Alexis Cromwell fired a shot that was blocked just 24 seconds into the match.
Attie Jo Westbrook added a shot of her own at the 5:28 mark that forced Viking's keeper Ellie McGowan to make a save.
Western Washington nearly opened the scoring off a corner kick that found the head of Mie Cairns but hit the cross bar. Olivia Connell found herself with the ball just a few yards from goal on the back post but Alex Barras made the save to keep the game scoreless.Â
WWU opened the scoring as Triya Mitchell threw the ball into the bottom of the 18-yard box where Mie Cairns flicked it to the top of six-yard box that found Emily Holdridge for her first goal of the season.
The second half opened with five straight fouls before Audry Holdridge took a shot that was blocked. Bayla Abraham was booked in the 56th minute before
Abbey Blancett took a shot that was saved by McGowan. In the 60th minute, Abraham received her second yellow and was sent off. The Vikings would be forced to play a man down for the next 30 minutes.
The Nighthawks had many great opportunities including a shot from
Ali Adkins in the 69th minute that missed wide.Â
NNU would fail to answer and would fall 1-0. The Nighthawks fall to 2-6-3 overall and 2-3-2 in GNAC play. They will travel to Ellensburg to play Central Washington.
