ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Central Washington on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead with a pair of goals from Marisa Badillo. Badillo opened the scoring in the fifth minute before finding the back of the net again in the 14th minute to give CWU a 2-0 advantage.
NNU generated a few opportunities to cut into the deficit in the opening half. Lucy Bergford put shots on goal in the 15th and 30th minutes, while Alexis Cromwell forced a save in the 22nd minute.
Central Washington added to its lead just before halftime as Emma Barrett scored in the 45th minute to send the Wildcats into the break with a 3-0 advantage.
The Nighthawks came out of halftime and quickly got one back. In the 53rd minute, Elliana Kimball found Cromwell, who scored to cut the CWU lead to 3-1.
NNU continued to create chances throughout the second half. Kimball and Ali Adkins each put shots on frame, while Mylee Carver Moulton nearly added another in the final minute with an attempt that hit the crossbar.
The Nighthawks outshot the Wildcats 7-6 in the second half, but could not cut further into the deficit as Central Washington held on for the 3-1 victory.
By the numbers:
- NNU finished with 12 shots, including seven on goal. CWU recorded 15 shots with seven on frame.
- Cromwell finished with two shots, both on goal, while scoring NNU's lone goal.
- Kimball recorded the assist on Cromwell's goal and finished with two shots.
- Bergford and Adkins each recorded two shots on goal.
- Isabella Brown played the final 62:57 in goal and made two saves while allowing one goal.
- NNU held a 7-6 advantage in shots during the second half.
