SAN DIEGO - Northwest Nazarene volleyball came close to forcing a fifth set on the road against Point Loma on Friday night, but the Sea Lions eked out a two-point set victory to take the match 3-1.
Point Loma came out strong with a 25-13 win in the opening set. The second frame was a back-and-forth battle, with NNU rallying for six-straight points late to tie it at 22-22. The set would go past the normal 25 points for a win, with the Nighthawks eventually pulling out a 28-26 win to even the match.
The Sea Lions used a late run to pull away in set three for a 25-18 win. Facing match point in the fourth set with PLNU leading 24-19, NNU rallied to tie it at 24 with five unanswered points. Point Loma bounced back with the next two points, though, to take the set and the match.
Three Nighthawks registered double-digit kills, led by
Abby Black with 12.
Kayci Spray led the team with 15 digs.Â
NNU wraps up the season-opening San Diego Invite with one more game tomorrow, facing Emporia State at 10:30 a.m. Pacific.
